Wilson's Phalaropes are interesting little shorebirds who lead a reversed role lifestyle. The female is the more colorful of the sexes (pictured here), takes on multiple mates and leaves the rearing of the young up to the more drab colored male. They prefer shallow wetlands and here in North Dakota, such habitats take on some very special colors and patterns at certain times, truly showcasing their subtle beauty.
