Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada-January, 2015. It was growing dark near Water Fowl Lakes which is a short hike off Icefields Parkway (Hwy. 93) so I plowed my way through deep snow for 1.5 miles or so and Mt. Chephren came into prominent view. It was around 0 degrees and getting colder, however there was no wind. I had been here before sunrise three days previously and it was -15, and at that time I had learned my lesson about keeping your mittens on while operating the camera and adjusting the tripod. The only sound was the rushing of Mistaya (Mistaya is the rivers name that the creek branchs off of) creek heading for Lake Chephren which is not far ahead to the right. Canon 5D mk II, EF 16-35mm f2.8 @ 16mm f18, 0.5sec iso 100. RRS tripod w/RRS BH-40 bullhead. It was mostly backlighting with the sun falling behind the mountain, but the few clouds were creating a strange wave like pattern behind. The hike out was even more fun as it had grown completly dark. But I put my headlamp on and and returned to the car and drove back to Canmor.
