A young herring gull goes for altitude. This image was taken using a polarizing filter to render the sky as dark blue as possible. I later converted it to b&W in Aperture, turning the blue into black via the channel mixer in order to fully isolate the bird and give image a certain dreamlike quality.

Nikon D90 with a Nikkor 28-300mm lens. Exposure was f/9 at 1/320 sec. Processed in Aperture.
