Much of the marsh was frozen over but this Common Goldeneye was paddling around in an area that wasn't frozen. As I got out of my car to photograph it on a tripod, it took off so I shot it hand-held and was lucky enough to not only photograph the bird but also its tracks as it ran across the water. Nikon D850 with a 200-500 f/5.6 lens was used to capture the shot. Shutter and focus were set to continuous. Settings were 1/1000 sec., f/6.3, ISO 720, focal length 480mm.
