"Rooted:" This is actually the scene outside a collapsed mine deep in the Prescott National Forest, off of a road very obviously no longer traveled. The soil that appears to have heavy erosion toward the center and left of the image is where the mine's tunnel once was, before the Earth swallowed it back up. To me, of particular interest was how the nearby trees, having lost their natural underground surroundings, had roots that branched across the chasm only to re-bury themselves into the ground on the other side. Natural adaptation at its finest? Gear: Nikon D810, 14-24mm lens @ 14mm, ISO 64, f/5, 1/100 second.
