The backlit tulip was photographed in my garden with a hand-held Nikon D7000 and a Nikkor 70-300 mm VR lens at 230 mm. Exposure was f/11, 1/640 sec (ISO 400). A featureless, light gray background was replaced with a cloudy sky (taken from a free disc that accompanied a photo magazine), producing a somewhat surreal composite. The photograph of the tulip and the final image (produced using Photoshop) were made by Irwin H. Segel, Davis, California.
