On a cold cold day at the Sax Zim Bog nature center, a very friendly red squirrel was foraging for food underneath one of the bird feeders. This little guy would bury his head in the snow, come up with a seed or two, and then squint like he got snow up his nose. These red squirrels, which were abundant throughout the area, are extremely athletic and quite small compared to the grey squirrels I am used to near my Ohio home.
