This colorful Fruit Dove (Ptilinopus insularis), also called the “scarlet capped fruit dove”, is found only on the uninhabited Henderson Island, (part of the Pitcairn Island group in the South Pacific). This photo was taken in the interior scrub forest of the island with a Nikon D300 and a Nikkor 70-300 mm VR lens at 300 mm. The exposure was f/8 and 1/640 sec. Image by Irwin H. Segel.
