Walking through an old, dingy warehouse turned artist studio in Asheville, I stumbled upon this open window. It was in a stairwell, offering little more than a view to anyone who wasn’t in a hurry to get somewhere. I’m sure most people rushed by it, going up or down, perhaps noticing only the weather outside. As I passed it, I was stopped in my tracks. The panes of the glass created a beautiful mosaic, with their varying patterns of frost. The simplicity of the scene just outside of the window… the trees, the sky, and the puffy white clouds, gave me a moment to day dream about being on the other side. There was something beautiful in the way the interior panes open to let in the breeze on a warm spring day. For a moment, as I was hurrying to get somewhere else, I found myself feeling calm. I found that the open window gave me a little peace, reminding me to slow down, stop and look. There’s so much more to see than we actually realize.
