The Octogan House,referred to by locals as the "Round House" or the "Inkwell" hoiuse was built in 1857 in Hyde County,NC. Legend has it that the owner lost a conventionally shaped house to a hurrican, so he built this one with eight sides to better withstand the vicious eastern NC hurricanes. It has been abandoned for years but there are attempts now to restore it.
