Sometimes a doorway is photographically interesting because of its structure or surroundings rather than for what it frames -- like this double door entryway -- the small inner one for people, the large outer one for cars. The photo was taken in Sibiu, Romania, with a Nikon D80 and a Nikkor 18-200 mm VR lens at 18 mm. The exposure was f/8 and 1/50 sec. Perhaps the owner was inspired by a visit to Lavirotte’s building in Paris. Or maybe the inclusion of the statues was just a convenient solution to a structural problem -- (“We’re out of concrete pillars, but we have some second-hand statues that can be made to fit”.) Or maybe it was just the result of “Okay -- you can keep them, but they have to go outside.”
