I looked out my door in the middle of the afternoon. It was night. My first confused glimpse made me think of Christmas lighting or fireflies. So I grabbed my camera. As I was getting the shot, I heard the sirens. Then my smart phone started beeping. The Apocalipse? No, there was a message to turn on emergency broadcasting. WWIII? No, again. This was a tornado warning, an unexpected and imminent threat to my neighborhood. Christmas, fireflies, Apocalypse, WWIII...these are not non sequitur preludes to a tornado. They point to the event, much as the "freight train roaring overhead" announces the arrival.
