Using a Nikon Coopix compact camera on a tripod, I had my son swing this battery operated plastic light saber. I used the "night portrait" scene setting for a 2-3 second exposure. This setting allows a longer exposure to capture the motion and ambient light, while a pop of the flash lit my son nicely. This photo was used at my son's college in a brochure for the Computer Science Department since he was doing research on Virtual Reality, and they had a virtual reality simulator set up with a laser light sword and wired face goggles.
