The Petrel, a whale-catcher (and later, a sealing ship) was built in 1928. After whaling and sealing became uneconomical in the 1950s, the ship was beached at Grytviken, South Georgia Island, where it has been exposed to the weather of the South Atlantic region ever since. This photo was taken in January (summer) 2013 with a Nikon D7000 and a Nikkor 16-85 VR lens at 22 mm. The exposure was f/7.1 and 1/3200 sec. To convey the harsh, near-monochromatic environment of the region, the original image was converted to black and white.
