This minimal composition made a nice New Year’s greetings card by including an inside message of “Looking Toward a Bright New Year.” The original photo of the Medium Ground Finch was taken from a distance of about 12 feet on Genovesa Island in the Galapagos. (Galapagos birds are quite tolerant of photographers.) I used a Nikon D300 and a Nikkor 70-300 mm lens at 300 mm. The exposure was f/8 and 1/400 sec. The sunny background was added with a Nik plugin.
