This photo was taken on the side of a Wyoming highway one summer afternoon. We had driven all afternoon through the countryside, passing cattle ranches and picket fences that crisscrossed the open prairie. Suddenly, a monolith in the distance caught my attention. Out of the gentle, rolling plains, a lone mountain seemingly lifted itself out of the ground, reaching towards the buoyant clouds above. Standing a few hundred meters tall, it was a truly remarkable sight. I decided to capture this solitary peak, which encapsulates the gritty character and unique beauty of the American West.
