This image was taken during a hike in the backcountry of the Wet Mountains of Colorado. We had gotten the first snowfall of the season the night before and went for a early morning hike to enjoy the fresh powder in relative unexplored backcountry. Suddenly, in the middle of nowhere, we came upon this unbelievable sight of a single aspen tree in - what seemed like - an explosion of orange, yellow and red fall colors. Standing totally alone in the meadow, surrounded by ponderosa pines which is extremely unusual since aspens normally stand in family groves.
The colors of the tree were so iridescent in this muted sea of white and green that the entire scene felt completely surreal.
