July 19 2008. After a full day of shooting rodeo, I drove my second 100 miles of the day out to the Waikupanaha lava flows on Hawaii's Big Island. As I was on the phone to my buddy that was already set up there, I likely was speeding while itching to see "WATERSPOUTS, galore, Get your self down here NOW" As the molten lava entered the cold ocean, steam was created along with much turbulance and an occasional waterspout dropped down from the plume. About 3-4 per hour occurred until dark set upon us. Note the tour boat in the water. 1/20 sec f2.8 ISO 100 raw capture Nikon D200 70-200 mm at 105mm. Gitzo tripod.
