Each February, the Kasuga Grand Shrine in Nara holds a Lantern Festival to mark the beginning of Spring in the Japanese lunar calendar. During this Setsubun Mantourou, the more than 3,000 bronze and stone lanterns in the gardens of the Shrine are illuminated.
