During 2011 and 2012 we spent a few months on the island of Tanna, one of 80 islands that make up the country of Vanuatu.
During our time there we became friends with many of the people who live much as they did 300 years ago. We attended many of their feasts and ceremonies.
While it is possible for us to imagine living without electricity and internet...it's a lot like wilderness camping. But to have never owned a photo of your parents, wife, children is harder to image. We were traveling on a sailboat and have a 4x6 photo printer on board. We printed 1000's of photos for local people.
This was shot at one of the biggest village events, a circumcision ceremony.
