During the past few years, thousands of couples signified their love by placing padlocks engraved with their names on grillwork associated with bridges over the Seine in Paris. The keys were then tossed into the river. But nothing lasts forever. About a month after I took this photo, the city began to dismantle the decorated grills, which were becoming too heavy for safety. The grill shown in this photograph is located on a small embankment adjacent to Pont Neuf. The Samaritaine building in the background was built in 1905 and served as a department store until it closed in 2005. My photograph was taken on an overcast day with a Nikon D750 and a Nikkor 24-85 mm VR lens at 85 mm. The exposure was f/8 and 1/320 sec. Adjustments were made in Photoshop to lift the image out of the April in Paris gloom.
