These scary-looking monsters were originally designed as decorative waterspouts used to drain rainwater away from the stone surfaces on churches and cathedrals. The gargoyles shown here are located on the southern side of Notre Dame de Paris. They were photographed in October 2005 with a Nikon D70 and a Tamron 28-200 mm lens at 200 mm. The exposure was f/11 and 1/400 sec. Contrast and color were adjusted with Nik and Photomatrix plugins. The stormy sky was added to enhance the eeriness of the scene.
