I had decided to get up a few hours before dawn, and drive the two hours to Joe Overstreet Landing on Lake Kissimmee in Kenansville, Florida, to shoot the bald eagles over the lake. However, the weather wasn't very cooperative, as the entire area was encased in dense fog. While waiting for the fog to lift, I noticed this Great Egret preening on a dock piling. The combination of fog, the position of the Great Egret, the color of the lone stripe of yellow on the piling somewhat matching the Egret's beak, and the solitary figure it made, were the reasons I made the shot. Taken with a Nikon D750, Sigma 150-500mm f/5.0-6.3, exposure at 1/800, f/7.1, 500mm. Additional processing in Lightroom CC and Nik Color Efex Pro 4.
