I was set up shooting a sunrise over the marshlands at Assateague Island National Seashore. It was dark and I had waded out in to the muck with my tripod and camera. I was so busy swatting mosquito's that I didn't notice this great egret that walked up 2 feet from me. I could of pet him by simply reaching out. I didn't notice he was there until he slung himself into the water and grabbed a small fish, keep in mind it was dark and I couldn't see much. I jumped, my heart sank into my stomach and once realized what it was I yelled at him.
He stuck around though. I shot my morning landscape and and waited until the light got better, after screaming at him I figured if he stayed through that then he wasn't going anywhere. Once the water was still I grabbed this shot.
