Built circa 1893, the Barn is the only one remaining in South Carolina with a carriage lift. It is probably the only all brick U-shaped barn with a carriage lift in the United States. In the late 19th and early 20th century, the property was an integral element in the Equine, Transportation and Winter Colony history of Aiken.
