The Hong Kong wet market is an ancient tradition, an assault on the senses with sights, smells, and sounds that cannot be found at the sterile supermarket chains to which we have grown accustomed. Here, food is sold so fresh it may still be alive. I visited the market while traveling in Hong Kong recently and was mesmerized by the blue tanks of fish and red lamps hanging over the stalls. Afterwards, I was intrigued to learn that the lamps are used to make the foods look fresher. In this photo, a man pauses, appearing to be deep in thought, and I am left wondering what his contemplations might have been that morning.
I captured this image with a Nikon D3300 at 38mm f/4.8 1/40s ISO 100.
