This photo was shot in mid-October 2014 from the highway between Gunnison and Salida, CO, that takes you up and over Monarch Pass at 11,000+ feet. On the next to last day of our trip and with a need to reach Salida that day on our way back to Colorado Springs, we unexpectedly ran into the first snow of the season on the western side of the southern Rockies. This was one of the last photos I took as we climbed higher and I became more frightened.(We're from Alabama, so are not accustomed to traveling in snow, even on level terrain much less mountains.) We did make it up and over the Pass fine due to my husband's level-headed driving, our front-wheel-drive rental car and the Lord's answer to my many prayers.
