Visiting Venice, I took a trip on the water-taxi to the island of Burano, where each house is painted in a bright color, always different from its neighbors. The place is a photographer's paradise -- an explosion of color, quaint neighborhoods and shops, boats, and interesting people, all of which can be photographed either directly or in rippled reflections in the water of a canal. I discovered this fire hydrant there, a bright red object against a brilliant blue background, where the hydrant's shadow and that of the corner behind it created an interesting pattern of dark blue. The image was made with a Canon 5D Mark III with an EF 24-105mm lens with an exposure of f/18 at 1/125th second and ISO 200.
