Two American Bald Eagles fighting near an almost completely frozen river in Haines Alaska. The fish they are fighting over on the snowbank below them has been cropped out of the image. I sat on the riverside snowbank for 5 days right after Thanksgiving in snowy weather that never warmed up past 18 degrees. It usually was closer to 3, not-so-warm, degrees fahrenheit. Eagles stop at this river that is reputed to be the last to freeze completely over in order to re-fuel on salmon as they continue their migration path to warmer climes. Shot over 7,000 images during that five day period of eagles fishing and fighting. Hand-held Nikon D4, 80-400 at 180mm, iso 2000, f8, 1/1600, +0.3 EV and shutter priority.
