I have backpacked the Sierras for many years and lived in Yosemite for three. Many of us travel form Yosemite to the "East Side" to backpack and to get away from the tourists in the park. On Hwy 395 just south of Lee Vining is an old abandoned cabin that is near one of my favorite trailheads...
