At various times, there are RELATIVELY safe areas to photograph Kilauea volcano. At this ocean entry in 2013, I hiked out during full moon and stayed out until past midnight. There were a handful of us there, and this fellow is using his phone to shoot the lava as it pours over the cliff. The moon lit the clouds enough to fill the frame with Natures beauty. NOTE: It is NOT recommended to be out on the delta where the lava enters the ocean. Not only is there a chance of wind change blowing toxic ash and acid your way, but literally ACRES of this unstable new land often breaks off and slides into the ocean. During new years eve 2016 several acres collapsed during 2 days. The rangers try their best to allow you a quality SAFE view. Obey them so you can bring your photos home.
