Unique thing is that the Engine is not connected to the coach car. It pushes the car up the mountain. The other unique feature is the engine is driven, or pulled, up the mountain by a large wheel which engages a cog rail installed between the train rails. The decisive moment came when the steam engines were replaced with diesel engines. Progress and modernization is inevitable.
