The bowhead whale population has rebounded to healthy numbers after almost being slaughtered to extinction by Scottish and American whalers in the mid to late 1800's in Cumberland Sound on Baffin Island in Canada's Arctic. Today they are seen in abundance by the Inuit and tourists that come up during the summer.
