This is probably the most famous tree in Zion National Park, but I had never seen it shot at night. I arrived at sunset and set up my gear and focus before it got dark-so much easier to see that way. When it got dark I light painted the tree from below for 10 seconds using only the soft side light of an automotive flashlight. This made the tree stand out against the stars, but not get completely blown out. Gear: Canon 5D MkIII, 24 mm f 1.4 lens, tripod. Settings: ISO 640, f2.5, 30 sec exposure.
