An impromptu stroll through a city park around sunset took us to a boat dock on Lake Wingra, and an incredible scene of mist and broken clouds. All I could think was, why don't I have a camera with me, when I remembered my Motorola Electrify M (model XT901) smartphone in my pocket with its fairly primitive camera. I rested it as well as I could on a dock post and started shooting. The scene on the screen swung wildly through different levels of brightness and color balance. Pressing the shutter button sometimes did nothing, other times fired a shot maybe five seconds later. Somehow this image was captured. The only processing I did was to level the horizon, clone out a flourescent orange float, and bump the brightness a tiny bit. I tried fixing the white balance, but I like this original version better. It's almost monochrome, centered on blue. The auto-only camera chose ISO 1600, 1/60sec, f/2.4, and applied aggressive noise reduction that makes the image look like a painting.
