Bevagna, a medieval village in central Italy dating to Roman times, is known for many things but especially it cuisine. Even though it was lunchtime however, on that March day in 2012 my attention was grabbed by the town's ancient piazza where the midday sun was creating dramatic shadows.
The scene echoed the neorealism of Italy's post-war cinema when film was moved out of the studios and onto the streets and everyday people found themselves acting in movies. The man on the bicycle made the shot; even in the 21st Century it is SO Italian.
I took the image in color but saw it in black and white -- although it took a little work in Photoshop to make that actually happen later. I used a Canon 7D body with a Canon EF 15 - 85 MM lens, shutter speed set 1/250th and ISO set at 125.
