Rented a cottage overlooking the ocean from Plum Island in Northeastern Massachusetts for December. I awoke each morning early to watch the sun rise "out of the ocean." It seemed the gulls were waiting as well - as soon as the sun first peaked above the horizon, the birds would rise from the water and fly to and fro until the sun fully emerged. I needed a long telephoto lens to get this large a disk of the sun. Inevitably the horizon line is distorted by the mirage. The reflection of the sun looks almost as though we are seeing the lagging edge of the sun through the water itself.
