This photo was taken in July 2014, at 79 degrees north in the Hinlopen Strait of Svalbard. All the white tones on the water are reflections of the snow and clouds, i.e., there was no sea ice present -- fine for the photographer, but not so fine for the polar bears. A Nikon D7000 was used with a Nikkor 16-85 mm VR lens at 45 mm. The exposure was f/8 and 1/5000 sec.
