The American Coot is often mistaken to be a duck but instead belong to a distinct family. Unlike the webbed feet of ducks, coots have broad, lobed scales on their lower legs and toes that fold back with each step in order to facilitate walking on dry land. Nikon D7100, ISO 1000, 1/250 sec, f 8.0, focal length 600mm.
