An Italian sandwich is also known as a "Sangwich." It doesn't have to include exotic Italian meats to qualify. Even a simple ham, Swiss cheese and tomato combination on a hard toasted roll can be a sangwich. The oregano (with or without other herbs), wine vinegar and olive oil dressing takes it halfway. The excessive fillings-to-bread ratio brings it the rest of the way home. Whatever doesn't fit between the bread halves, becomes a "side dish" for the sangwich.
