A Game Of Dominoes

A few years ago, on a hot summer afternoon, I was roaming the streets
of New York City when I came across a lively group of domino players. They had
set up a table on the corner of 91st and Amsterdam and were enjoying a game
in the shade. Charmed by the scene, I watched from a distance while I built
up the courage to ask if I could photograph them. I knew I couldn’t let
this chance go by. When I finally felt bold enough to approach them, I grabbed
my camera only to realize I had no more film left! Upset and frustrated about
missing this great opportunity, I started to walk away. A few minutes later
I realized I could do something about this—I was in New York after all.
I raced to a local camera store several blocks away and bought many rolls of
film. When I returned to the game, all flushed and out of breath, but more determined
than ever, I asked if I could photograph them without any hesitation. They smiled
and welcomed me to their group.
I love this photo because it reminds me of that hot summer afternoon and how
I found the courage to make it happen.
