Double Exposure
Our Picture This! assignment for this month was Double Exposure. The challenge
was to create multiple exposure images that combined various images in a way
that enhanced the storytelling or created a new reality. Readers responded with
a host of imaginative pictures that spoke to the newfound visual freedom of
in camera and software and their wonderful sense of fun, and drama.

Photographer Bob Coates wrote: “Uqualla was photographed
in the studio against a white background, stripped out in Photoshop.
The background image is of petroglyphs; lighting effects were
created using plant images; shadow effects were added as well.
All images were captured with a Fuji S2 Pro with a Nikon 35-70mm
f/2.8 lens.”

Bird In Flight |
|
Bruce Bain made this evocative image using a bird taken in flight
in Costa Rica and a sunset from Harriman State Park in New York.
Both were photographed with a Nikon F5 and an 80-200mm f/2.8 lens
and combined in Photoshop CS.

Granddad In The Picture |

Ivar T. Mattson wrote: “This group of senior singers were
posing for their annual group shot when they shouted to the photographer,
who also sings with them, ‘You ought to have been in this
shot!’ My grandson solved the problem his way.” Mattson’s
original was photographed with a Sony Cyber-shot.

Never Forget |
|
David Prewitt made this thoughtful image of the traveling remembrance
wall with a POW flag double exposed over it. The photo was made
as the wall toured Lenoir, North Carolina, with a Fuji S2 and
a 28-105mm Nikkor lens.

Canyon Surprise |
|
Pat Potter made the background shot of Horseshoe Canyon near Drumheller,
Alberta, Canada, and the dinosaur image in front of the Royal
Tyrrell Museum in Drumheller with a Minolta DiMAGE Z1 camera.
They were combined in Photoshop Elements 4.0.

Showing off action in motion, these two shots of rider Sydney
Zoll were made by Jock Goodman with a Nikon D70s and a 70-200mm
f/2.8 lens and then combined in Photoshop CS2.

Bill Lambeth made both these photos in the area around Glacier
Bay, Alaska. They were shot with a Canon EOS 10D at ISO 800, then
combined in Photoshop CS2.
