Post Graduate
Simon Willms studied anthropology in college and didn’t
decide to pursue photography as a career until after graduation. “I
was always interested in photography,” he says, “and when
I took time off after university to travel I realized I’d like to
study it.” He chose Hallmark for the quality of its intensive 10-month
program.
He is currently a first assistant to a commercial photographer in Toronto.
“Commercial photography is a great learning opportunity,”
he says, “but I don’t necessarily see it as my career.”
His ideal career? One that parallels that of the renowned photojournalist
James Nachtwey.

travels (above) and school assignments (left, right), the former shot
in 35mm with Canon cameras, the latter with Mamiya medium format equipment.
